Melissa Schuster | Nutrition Expert for Moms

MS, RDN, CDN, IFNCP

As a registered dietitian, nutrition expert, and mom of three, I have firsthand experience with the many challenges that come with motherhood — from stress to not getting enough sleep to feeling overwhelmed by the never-ending to-do list. I also know how all of this can make it so hard to eat well and feel healthy. As a nutrition expert specializing in moms, I've been exactly where you are — struggling to lose weight (and keep it off) with fad diets, constantly craving treats to combat fatigue, and truly not knowing what to eat to be healthy.

Throughout my early adulthood, I was stressed. After graduating college, I completed Teach For America in NYC while earning a Master's degree in education. To combat my stress, I turned to food. I went from being overly restrictive as a means of control (eating only 1,000 calories a day!) to losing all willpower (binging jars of peanut butter and boxes of cereal). I began running 100 miles a month, setting arbitrary goals as a way to measure my self-worth, and prizing weight loss as a means of happiness.

I finally had the epiphany that this was NOT healthy, and I was not happy! I knew something had to change, so in typical Melissa fashion, I dove headfirst into learning everything I could about nutrition, which really meant unlearning everything I thought I knew about health and weight loss.

Once I realized that my true passion was helping others learn the same things and overcome the same hurdles with weight and nutrition that I had overcome, I went back to school to become an RD.

Melissa Schuster, RDN, nutrition expert for busy moms with her family

And Schuster Nutrition was born.

After working for four years as a weight loss specialist and nutrition expert at a NYC hospital helping thousands of women find lasting weight loss, I realized I wanted to offer a concierge-level service to these women–especially moms, who deserve more than one-off nutrition sessions.

As someone who struggled for years with fad dieting and binge eating, I understand the toll that inadequate nutrition can take on your energy and mentality. And now that I’m a mom, I deeply understand how hard it is to take care of yourself, to know that food is one part of our lives–that it exists within our relationships, our stress management, our fitness, our sleep habits, our chronic and acute diseases.

I created the PEACE Method to help you build a healthy relationship with food and lose weight for good by considering ALL aspects of your life. I’ve found that this whole-person approach is the key to sustainable results so you truly never have to diet again. Because you are busy enough, and deserve to focus on all the other beautiful parts of your life.

Why I Became a Nutrition Expert for Moms

I can’t imagine more meaningful work: because at the end of the day, I am helping moms going through the thick of it feel like themselves again. I love watching my clients gain confidence, have more energy in their daily lives, and improve their relationship with food so they can be amazing role models for their children.

Fellow moms, I know how hard it is to balance caring for yourself with caring for your family! But you deserve to feel and look amazing–and to be supported while figuring out how to get there. By working together, we can transform your relationship with food so you can feel fantastic and focus on the things that matter most.

If your story resonates with mine, know that you’re not alone. Let’s schedule a time to talk about how I can help you step into a happier, healthier season of your life.

Core Values

 Empowerment

I give moms the nutrition and lifestyle tools they need to find lasting weight loss, regain their confidence, and leave our time together knowing they are off the diet roller coaster for good.

Empathy

I lead with empathy and act as a steady support, ensuring my clients feel heard, valued, and motivated at every stage of their nutrition journey.

Personalization

There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to nutrition; instead, I create a personalized plan for each client that is flexible, adaptable, and sustainable–so they never have to diet again.

Whole Person Approach

Weight loss is about more than just calories, and my clients are more than just a number on the scale. My whole-person approach integrates nutrition, mindset, and lifestyle to create a holistic nutrition plan that fits each client's unique life and works for the long-term.

Here are the three ways I can help you find lasting PEACE around food and say goodbye to diets for good:

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • A registered dietitian (RD) is a licensed healthcare professional who has completed a master's degree, thousands of hours of supervised clinical practice, and a national board exam. The title "nutritionist" is unregulated in most states — meaning anyone can use it without formal training or credentials. I completed a 1,600-hour dietetic internship at the James J. Peters Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a Master's in Nutrition & Dietetics from New York University, and an additional 1,000-hour advanced credential in integrative and functional nutrition. Working with an RD means you're getting evidence-based guidance from someone held to a professional and ethical standard.

  • The PEACE Method is my signature nutrition coaching framework designed specifically for moms who are done with dieting. PEACE stands for Past to Present, Energy Balance, Attention to Mindset, Confidence Building, and Enhanced Lifestyle — five pillars that together address the root causes of weight gain rather than just the symptoms. It takes a whole-person approach — addressing not just what you eat, but your mindset, lifestyle, stress, sleep, and relationship with food. The goal is lasting weight loss without restriction, calorie counting, or rules that don't fit real mom life.

  • IFNCP stands for Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner — an advanced certification for registered dietitians who specialize in a root-cause approach to nutrition and health. It requires additional training beyond the RD credential in areas like gut health, hormones, inflammation, and lifestyle medicine, and is one of the most rigorous specialty certifications available in the dietetics field. Beyond the IFNCP, I have completed extensive continuing education in GLP-1 medications, menopause and perimenopause nutrition, and gut health — areas that come up constantly for the moms I work with.

  • Yes — and this is one of my areas of focus. Postpartum weight loss is uniquely challenging because your hormones, sleep, stress, and schedule have all shifted dramatically. Having navigated the postpartum period three times myself, I bring both clinical expertise and firsthand experience to this work. A registered dietitian and nutrition expert who specializes in moms can help you navigate these changes with a plan that's realistic, nourishing, and sustainable — without restrictive dieting that isn't compatible with postpartum recovery.

  • Yes — and for busy moms in particular, online nutrition coaching is often more effective because it removes every barrier that gets in the way of showing up. No scheduling around traffic, no rushing, no hunting for parking — just you, wherever you are. Whether that's your home office, your car, or yes, hiding in your closet for five minutes of peace, I meet you there. All of my programs are delivered online through a combination of video calls, messaging support, food journal review, and personalized resources — so we stay connected between sessions, not just during them. Clients get the same level of personalized attention and accountability as they would in person, just without the commute.

  • Most clients start noticing changes in their energy, sleep, and relationship with food within the first few weeks. Meaningful, lasting weight loss typically unfolds over three to six months — which is why my programs are designed as longer engagements rather than quick fixes. The goal isn't a fast result that fades; it's a permanent shift in how you eat and feel.

  • As a registered dietitian and nutrition expert, my approach is centered around personalization, empathy, and a whole-person perspective — not a generic meal plan or a one-size-fits-all program. I don't believe there's a single "right way" to approach nutrition because everyone's body, lifestyle, and history are unique. What sets my work apart is the PEACE Method — a framework I developed from years of clinical experience and my own personal journey with fad dieting and binge eating. My clients don't just achieve the weight loss goals they came in with — they leave feeling more confident, energetic, and completely done with dieting for good.

  • It depends on your coaching style preference. In general, the content of my 1-on-1 coaching and group coaching are similar because they both take an integrative approach, cover my signature PEACE Method, and will be personalized to you. So the choice between the two depends on your coaching style preference:

    • Would you rather have 1-on-1 coaching in a longer program to get at the root of your nutrition challenges, personalize a plan just for you, and have me cheering you on every step of the way? If so, the PEACE Method 1-on-1 coaching is for you!

    • Or, would you rather have more independent learning through instructional videos and coaching through small group Q&As, with the support of a village of other moms? My Small Group Coaching is a shorter program and allows you to kickstart your weight loss in a supportive and motivating small group environment.

    • If you’re looking for an expedited, intensive program, the Nutrition Bootcamp is a condensed version of my 1-on-1 coaching and perfect for getting your most burning nutrition questions answered or laying the foundation for lasting weight loss!

  • Absolutely! While moms are my specialty, I have extensive experience working with women of all ages and stages of life — and yes, plenty of dads too, because it turns out busy, overwhelmed, and in need of support isn't exclusive to moms. If you resonate with wanting to lose weight for good and are looking for the kind of personalized, empathetic support I provide, I'd love to hear from you.
